Our UK Food Project

Nourishing Families, One Meal at a Time

We’re passionate about making a difference in the lives of families, not just in Jamaica but right here in the UK. Introducing our Food Project, an initiative designed to combat food insecurity and ensure that every family has access to nourishing meals.

In the UK, many families face the challenge of putting food on the table every day. The Food Project is our response to this pressing issue, aiming to provide vital support to those in need. Whether it’s a single parent struggling to make ends meet or a family facing unexpected financial hardship, we’re here to lend a helping hand.

There are two main ways you can support our Food Project: through food donations and monetary contributions. Your food donations, whether non-perishable items or fresh produce, help us stock food banks and community kitchens, ensuring that families have access to essential groceries. Alternatively, monetary donations enable us to purchase nutritious food items in bulk and distribute them to those who need them most.

Join us in our mission to nourish families and build stronger communities. Your support, whether through food donations or financial contributions, can make a real difference in the lives of families facing food insecurity across the UK.

Together, we can ensure that no family has to go hungry, and every child can grow up with the nourishment they need to thrive.

Project F.O.O.D (Feeding Our Own Diaspora)

Supporting Our Community with Nutritious Food & Essential Services

At Jamaica Basic Schools Foundation UK (JBSF), we are committed to ensuring that no one in our community goes hungry. Thanks to the generous support of The National Lottery Community Fund, our Project F.O.O.D (Feeding Our Own Diaspora) has expanded its reach, providing vital food assistance and welfare support to those in need.

What We Do

Project F.O.O.D is designed to support vulnerable individuals in Croydon, including the elderly, single mothers, and refugees. Through this initiative, we have successfully:

  • Expanded Our Food Bank – Now operating from Just Jam Club (CR0 1YD), serving up to 150 beneficiaries per session.
  • Delivered Weekly Food Parcels – Ensuring 25 housebound elders receive essential groceries.
  • Hosted Hot Meal Sessions – Providing bi-monthly hot meals for those in need.
  • Offered Welfare & Wellbeing Workshops – Covering mental health, healthcare access, and legal support.
  • Strengthened Partnerships – Collaborating with West Croydon Baptist Church, Grace Foods and City Harvest to increase food supply and outreach.

How This Funding Makes a Difference

The £20,000 grant from The National Lottery Community Fund has played a crucial role in:

  • Expanding our food distribution network
  • Enhancing community engagement through workshops and events
  • Supporting the mental and physical wellbeing of those facing hardship

We are deeply grateful for this funding, which has enabled us to make a meaningful impact on hundreds of lives in our community.
